Busy and relaxing

Michael and I having a cuddle - he was whinging :-( as he has bad nappy rash

This weekend has been both busy and relaxing.

Saturday I was very busy - got my hair cut which it desperately needed and prior to that we went to look at kitchen benchtop colours. We have a colour we like, however, I'm pretty sure it is going to be more expensive than the benchtop they have quoted me on grrrrrr

Isn't that always the way - what you really like is more than what is just.....well....ok **sigh** I will ask the kitchen people tomorrow for a quote and we will see. Oh well, there may be an alternative that I haven't thought of .......

Good news, the appliances I ordered were delivered on Saturday!! YAY - new oven, cooktop and rangehood!!!!

Poor little Michael has acid nappy rash, from teething. He is getting some big BIG molars at the back and it is really giving him a hard time. Interestingly, he is my worst teether. I do remember Jemma getting acid nappy rash though but she was not as whingy as Michael - or maybe I have forgotton (hmm highly likely knowing my brain)

Today we went to see Greg's Grandmother who is 94 tomorrow!!! Wow, that is pretty old and she is totally with it mentally. Sadly her body is letting her down (heart, legs etc) now but I think she was fairly happy to see us and see Michael running around. I made her a Banana Loaf and we took her a box of choccies and some flowers (what do you buy someone for their 94th b'day??).

After that it was off to look at a kitchen to see if we want handles or no handles look. I particuarly like the no handle look but thought it may be too plain. When we looked, we liked it a lot and then we thought that the handles everywhere looked too busy for our taste. I still think it may be a little plain but we will go for that look and then we can add handles to the top if it is too plain (although I do like that clean line look a lot). If we get handles initially and then think it is too busy, too bad the doors have holes in them so no where to go.

Jemma is going to see the orthodontist to see how many more times we have to turn her expander and then off for a swimming lessons assessment after that. I will probably drop into work to see everyone with Michael as it is just down the road from the swimming place and they haven't seen him for ages.

Have a great week everyone, will try and post during the week or if not, then Sunday or Monday again......

Hot hot hot.....but hotter tomorrow

Oh my GOODNESS it is hot today!!!

Here is Greg relaxing on the lounge, with the AC blowing on him after a hard day at work in the heat. He had a good night out last night with some friends from work for a farewell for a guy that is leaving to go O/S.
Poor Michael was very tired this afternoon after a big week. He went to bed at about 6.30pm tonight which is very early for him. Jem has gone to Rogers for the weekend.

This heat means of course that my office at work was like living in a fridge. Great if you have been out in 43degC heat, but over time I freeze to death and have to go outside to thaw out or put my heater on!!!!!!! Crazy stuff

Miss Alex decided to come home for a visit (and food of course) on Tuesday. She went back to work on Wednesday. I think she only comes home these days when there is a problem with something or for food!!! Ahh to be 20 with NIL responsibilities..........I've never been in that situation before but sometimes I envy her LOL

Here is a pic of the silky babies. They are growing up now and are very cute. Hopefully we won't have too many roosters out of this lot - my fingers are crossed xxxx Sadly we had to put down our old silky hen that Roger gave me. I hope we get a couple of nice hens.

I have a busy day tomorrow, getting my hair done, checking out final kitchen colours, trying to stay cool LOL. I hope the weather forecast is wrong but if not it will be another over 40 deg C day tomorrow. Off to water the garden now....................

Sickness is all around

Hmmm, not too good here at the moment.

Firstly, on Tuesday Baby Browney chook had a sore eye, which then turned into her being very sick (absecess??) and then she died (I was about to put her down). Then, I found Silky chook sitting on the ground that night. When I picked her up she weighed nothing and was finding it hard to breathe. We put her down that night as she was dying a slow horrible death. Not sure what was wrong with her.

I just found Whitey acting funny this afternoon. I picked her up and her weight was good but she was sort of gasping and sitting. I went back about 1 hr later and she was dead. We also have at least 1 rooster but he is only crowing, not very loudly, a couple of times in the morning and that is it. I'm pretty certain that we have at least 3 roosters but only 1 is lightly crowing. We haven't found the culprit yet!!!

Very sad as they were all lovely chooks. I don't know what is going on but I have almost lost half my adult chook population in a week - very sad about that and am a little bit concerned thinking do I have some sort of disease going around?? They seem unrelated, but not 100% sure.

Friday night I went out to a friends place for a party. When I got home Michael was up and down a bit and not himself. at about 12pm that night - SPEW everywhere!!! And it went like that every 30mins until 9am that morning (except by then there was no more spew, just heaving). He was better after a huge 4.5hr sleep that afternoon.

Today was meant to meet a friend for a play in the park, but got a message from her that she had the spew bug. Greg was over helping his Uncle with some computer probs and he called me - yep, got the spew bug - he is in bed now feeling very sorry for himself, hopefully sleeping it off.

Jemma had the bug whilst she was at her Dad's place, so at the moment I am the only one who hasn't got it (touch wood).

Ahhhh, I love washing spew out of bedlinen and towels LOL

Hope your week was better...........and doesn't Michael look cute with his nice hair cut (although he is very whingy today for some reason???)

Will try and update some more during the week........................

Random pics around the place

Jemma and Michael both looking very cute!

Back to work for Greg on Wednesday - he wasn't looking forward to that really as he was enjoying the break away. I'm back to work next Wednesday........ should be good.... well maybe.....

Here are some heirloom tomatoes growing on the plant Jemma and I planted. They are very yummy to eat.

I'm having a coffee with a friend tomorrow and then we have a party on Saturday night at Kristen's place. Michael and I went for a swim at Chris' yesterday and he loved the water!!! We are busy busy busy!!!

Progress of the Passionfruit vine which somehow made it past the chooks!!! They kept eating it so I didn't think it would survive, but it had a growth spurt and is now out of harms way.

The chooks are getting big now. Sadly one died as they got a common disease which I treated them immediately for, however it didn't make it despite my efforts. I think all but 2 of the blue chooks are BOYS!!! OH NO - will wait until they crow though, just to be sure. Happy to report that the Cochin X are both girls YAY (well I'm pretty sure). The silky bubs all look like boys to me eeek!! but I'm sure I'm wrong and its too early to say yet. No more chooks now - I have enough :-)

I found this old rusty wheelbarrow on the side of the road at Council cleanup. I think it looks quite cute with some pretty flowers in it.

The kitchen reno is slowly coming on. I have a design, which changes every now and again but I think it is ok. I think I have decided on door type and I am getting a colour consultant lady to give me some tips on the colours I should pick. I have sent out for some quotes, but most of the places are still away. Maybe have some more next week.

A day with friends

Jemma, Josh and Paige (Jem & Josh waiting for Steve to get them for a ride on the biscuit)

Michael & Greg on the deck (OMG a bad pic of Greg)

We had a lovely day today with friends at their holiday house at the river. Shame about the weather as it was raining and pretty cold.

Their caravan - which is really like a holiday house as her hubby is a builder, is down at a Ski Park at North Sackville which is on the Hawkesbury River - a popular waterski river.

The kids went on the biscuit and had a great time and another friends hubby had a ski. Michael was really good playing but got very tired. We had a beautiful lunch too.

It was a real bummer that the weather was so crap, but everything was really green which is a change for Summer - usually everything is dead from the heat and sun!!
Greg goes back to work on Wednesday and hasn't got as much done as he would have liked. This is mainly due to the weather being so humid and rainy.
We are thinking of renovating the kitchen, however don't have the $20K that kitchens seem to cost these days.......that was a very rough estimate from Harvey Norman for a laminate 15 cupboard (or so) kitchen installed - crazy stuff!!! So, we are looking at a DIY / Flatpack type system that Greg can install (thank goodness he is handy at these things). I don't want to spend more than $10K but would prefer it to be closer to $5k. (maybe I'm dreaming but I want to try!!)
The reason for this is I will most likely be going back to work Full time later this year and I WANT A DISHWASHER!!! There is NO way we can fit one in our current crappy kitchen due to it being a non standard size, so it has to go. Although I do enjoy doing 3 days, I think that full time is worth it $$ wise (can pay the mort off quicker) and I am probably going to apply for a work from home day 1 day per fortnight (the other is a Flex day which we get fortnightly). This will mean Michael will only be in daycare 4 days per week and at home with me on the 5th day.
So, I am on the case!!! I think I have a design I like - very difficult with the space we have. Now to look for appliances and get quotes for the kitchen - wish me luck ('cause I think I'm going to need it hehe).....................

2010 here we come......

Wow, 2010 - I can't believe it is 2010 already - where does the time go??

A lot has happened to me in the last 10 years - some great & absolutely BRILLIANT stuff, some not so great and a couple of absolutely terrible experiences (I'm sad to say).

I am very much looking forward to the next 10 years. I have some goals, some dreams and some plans :-) (which often never go to plan.........hehe)

I wonder what will happen????????????? LOL

Jemma and Michael playing on NYE
Michael playing today
12.00am NYE/NYDay - Greg and I on the lounge watching the fireworks on TV (OMG don't we lead exciting lives HAHA - not!!). Yes we look terrible!!! Greg needs a shave and I am SO tired after drinking half a bottle of bubbles!!! Ah well - maybe I now need to start wearing more makeup??? Who would have thought that at the work Social Club Christmas party I won the "Most Glamourous Award" for the night ($50 voucher - not bad eh for an old girl who's had 3 kids!!) & got a lot of compliments!!! If only they could see this pic - the judges would reconsider I'm sure hehe
The bedroom reno is now finished!! The wall looks an awful colour in this pic but isnt that bad. It probably isnt a perfect match but is better than the last colour (too red/brown).
Very happy with the outcome!!! (I would love to get new carpet but will just add that to the list of stuff I would love to do to our little cottage.......*sigh*)
Will try and update weekly as per usual now with what is happening in our lives.

Happy New 2010 everyone - be happy & safe
