My name is Rachael and I live on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia and am a mum to five kids who range in age from 29 years to 7 years. I am a Nanni to two beautiful grandies - Summer and Blaydon. I also have my supportive partner/husband Greg and lots of cute animals.
I want my blog to be a record of the happenings with the kids and our lives.
My life journey has been quite interesting so far! My mantra is .....I really just want a quiet life!.......
but that isn't ever going to happen I don't think. Probably a good thing too because it keeps me on my toes.
The important thing is, I am HAPPY!
Really............ that's all that matters in the end.
Some facts about me & my family:
- I have two girls and three boys
- I have twin boys - my last bubbas
- Yes, they were a BIG surprise!
- No, it won't ever happen again (thank goodness)
- Two of my boys have a rare medical condition called Fragile X Syndrome (FXS). It causes intellectual disability. It came from me and I have passed it on to 3 of my 5 kids. One of my daughters is a carrier.
- We didn't know we had FXS in the family until my eldest son was tested when the twins were little babies (3 months old). Everyone in our family and extended family was then tested.
- My other boy has Autism. This means all our our boys have some special needs.
- Most days are FANTASTIC, some days are a challenge and a few are just plain shit. That is life with special needs kids, twins, teens and lots of kids. LOL
- We moved to Queensland in April 2017. The Universe was telling us that it was time via many things. We both were very scared to move but realised it was the way to go. It was the best decision we have made and there are absolutely no regrets at all.
- Before we moved to Queensland, I worked part time as a Customer Service Officer in a Library and I really, really enjoyed it a lot. I was very grateful for the opportunity and worked with fab people.
- In a prior life I was in a job with bosses that cared more about office politics & career climbing than people. Don't miss it one bit.
- I love reading, baking, saving money, catching up with family and friends, my home, pets and community.
- My favourite animal is a chicken! But I love all animals, even spiders.
- I am very grateful to live in Australia - it is a wonderful country.
- I have learn't that hard times really do reveal true friends (and often the true friend is not who you think it will be).
- I love to be thrifty! I love baking, cooking, being in the garden, re-purposing, re-using, recycling, compost, volunteering, money management, op shopping, and streeeeetching those dollars AND
- I love my family and friends most of all.
I hope you enjoy my blog!
Luv
